Let's just go ahead and admit that all these chalkboard projects floating around the internet are pretty cool. In our old house I used wall chalkboard paint in a small section of our kitchen to write notes on and draw my husband funny pictures, but ever since we moved, I have developed this phobia to making decisions on permanent things that aren't thoroughly thought out. So, I decided to start with something small, just in case it didn't work out, so I wouldn't have an entire wall or something that I couldn't take back...BUT this was so easy, I highly recommend it.
I chose a grouping of different styles of mugs to try then researched different chalkboard paints that could be used for this type of project and this Pebeo chalkboard paint is amazing because you bake it to make it stick so it totally works for porcelain! So cool.
Supplies:: porcelain cups/bowls, paint tape, paintbrush, and chalkboard paint
1: First, tape off the portion of the mug that you want to paint. I didn't paint the whole thing because I thought the chalkboard-ness might mess with wherever my lips were going to drink from and it might get weird. 2: Using a paintbrush, paint the desired part of the mug (note: a regular paintbrush works better than a sponge brush. It absorbed too much into the sponge and left streaks). 3: Remove the tape and once it is dry, then follow the baking directions that came with the paint and wait. 4: Once cooled, grab some chalk and start drawing!I ended up having extra paint, so I think next time I will try something bigger...hey, I might even get brave and paint a whole wall now :)
