I wanted to start a feature called "home : made" because I feel that every house can be made a home, it may just need a little sprucing up...and generally with things you already have. First up, our living room:
When we first moved into our home, it had nice neutral (read: tan) walls, which I was grateful for initially, but as we continued to live in it, I wanted to do something to perk up the space. Our living room is a sort of odd configuration and is very open with two nice windows, however there is a covered porch behind it which blocks much of the morning light that I was hoping would brighten up the room. Hmm...what to do. I didn't want to get too attached to hanging art and drilling big holes if I was going to change the color, so it sat very blank for the first several months like in the "before" picture below. But then I found my color: Heavenly Sand (cue angelic choir sounds). Fortunately my husband works at a hardware store...unfortunately, our house is basically one giant open concept with rounded corners so painting just the living room was a no-go- but I'll share more later. Well, quite a few gallons later and a free weekend, mission accomplished!
Our art collection started as an idea to have something personal but unique to our space. I decided to represent each member of our family- and the one on the way- with a print of a buck or doe that represented their personality and Mr. Jasper got his own steampunk cat print ( all found on etsy). As you can see, I am still working on adding to my shelf, but it's a good start.
As a mom, my living room is, in reality, never this clean and I am still searching for good toy storage since Piper likes to play here. Yes, my coffee table has bumpers and all breakables are no where near her little reach, but we love to chase her around in here and everything in here is meant to be used. This is what makes our house a home :)
